«Scene change»
Prologue

Grisha Bruskin's project "Scene Change" was first presented at the Venice Biennale 2017 in which I participated as a CGI generalist.

"Scene Change" is an exploration of how cultural, historical and ideological mythologies are born, exist and become ruins. And how ruins, in turn, become the origin of new mythologies. The interaction of modern man with cultural and religious traditions. (c) Grisha Bruskin

"Prologue" - was executed several years later and shown at Grisha Bruskin's solo exhibition at the Tretyakovskaya Gallery in 2022. "...the figure of a rider on a multi-legged horse from the video that opens the exhibition is reminiscent of Kandinsky's rider and at the same time of Umberto Boccioni's sculptures, which combined the different phases of movement of the figure they represented. The combination of these two figures results in the image of a certain archaic deity, which, however, does not belong to any known pantheon" (c) Boris Groys

The gas mask protects the rider from the plagues of our time - deadly viruses, chemical and biological weapons. The messenger brings the news that the world has changed. And the premiere of Theatrum Mundi's new play "Scene Change" has taken place. It takes its journey through space, where it encounters the ghosts of ideas, the material images of which the viewer will meet only at the end of the exhibition.

Behind the scenes

Tsiolkovsky

Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky, the great Russian scientist and one of the founders of theoretical cosmonautics, left behind not only scientific works, but also many illustrations that realize his dreams of space flight and exploration of the universe.

Tsiolkovsky in his drawings often depicted spaceships, stations and the future of mankind among the stars. These images embodied the dream of conquering the cosmos, becoming a symbol of the pursuit of knowledge and progress. In "Prologue" these motifs are reflected through the metaphor of a space rider who breaks through the boundaries of the possible, striving for unknown and uncharted spaces.
